Volleyball wins Senior Night, finishes year 8-9
The Lady Wolverines’ volleyball team wrapped up their 2022 season this past week with a split victory against Beaver Falls and a loss at Beaver.
SENIOR NIGHT
Tuesday the Wolverines played host against last place Beaver Falls Tigers who came into the match 0-15. The Wolverines after a tough Thursday night loss at Laurel were officially eliminated from playoffs, but still had something to fight for in the last week of volleyball play - Senior night and possible upset of a top seed in the Beaver Bobcats.
The Wolverines have historically dominated the series against the Tigers and that trend continued once again, as the Wolverines were able to send off their two seniors - Morgan Hooker and Alyssa Donley - with a straight set victory 3-0 over the Tigers. The Wolverines won the sets 25-8, 25-10, 25-9 while improving their record back to .500 on the season, 8-8 (6-7).
THURSDAY NIGHT - LAST NIGHT OF PLAY
Thursday night the Wolverines were no match for the Beaver Bobcats as they lost in straight sets 3-0 to finish the season 8-9 (6-8) overall. Although the Wolverines did miss out on playoffs and pulling off a late season upset, the Wolverines showed battle and toughness all the way to the end. The Wolverines 8 conference losses ALL came to the hands of the top seeds and playoffs teams in the conference - Shenango, Beaver, Neshannock, and Laurel, with their 9th loss against Union, who also finished their season atop of their section in 1A volleyball.
Playoffs are under way now for the top 4 teams as they also found out their seeding this past week. With Shenango falling to Neshannock in an upset, Shenango takes home the #2 seed in 2A. Beaver gets the #6 seed while Neshannock receives #9 and Laurel takes home the #10 seed. Playoff actions begins this week with coverage presented by Trib High School Sports Network.
Congratulations to the Lady Wolverines Volleyball team and to HC Jenna Ricciuti along with Seniors Morgan Hooker and Alyssa Donley on a great season!
