Volleyball splits again, BIG week upcoming

The Lady Wolverines earned another split week as they defeated the Mohawk Warriors on the volleyball court Tuesday in straight sets. The Wolverines suffered a very tough 3-2 loss at Neshannock on Thursday, which makes playoffs and resulting 4 section games that much more important.

The Wolverines will pick up Tuesday night against undefeated and qualified for playoffs Shenango Wildcats (10-0) team that will definitely look to continue the winning streak. As big as this game may be, the biggest game of the season will come down to a trip to Laurel to try and earn a split in the regular season against the Spartans (8-5).

The playoff picture is starting to shape up Shenango has qualified for playoffs while Mohawk, Riverside, and Beaver Falls have been officially eliminated. That leaves Neshannock, Beaver, Laurel, and Ellwood City to fight for the three remaining spots for playoffs. Neshannock and Beaver look like they have the ability to clinch this week if they win out, leaving the big game against Laurel the primary way the Wolverines get back into contention.

Although the Wolverines 7-6 (5-5) are just behind the Spartans 8-5 (6-4), Laurel did earn the biggest surprise of the season as they defeated Neshannock last week 3-2. This means that Ellwood City will not only have to defeat Laurel, but most likely have to upset Shenango or Beaver on the remaining schedule to be considered for playoffs.

Good luck on this upcoming week for the volleyball team as it’s one game at a time and first is a date Tuesday night against Shenango. ECS will have live video stream coverage of the match.
