Volleyball suffers back-to-back loses

Every week is a battle in Lawrence County in high school sports. That trend continued this week as the Lady Wolverines suffered back-to-back losses this week against two teams that have become their rivals the past several years - Neshannock and Shenango.

As ECS described in their preseason TWIECS show, this years’ volleyball section will be a battle between teams that have made the playoffs for at least the past two years. Back at it again, the Neshannock Lancers and Shenango Wildcats look to battle not only with each other, but also with Ellwood City to see who wins the section. The first two punches have been thrown, as the Wolverines suffered loses to both teams.

EC vs. Neshannock

EC started the night sluggish on offense having several issues with the serve and continuous points against them while on defense. Although the Wolverines battled to score 16 points in set three, the night belong to the Lancers who won in straight sets.

EC vs. Shenango

EC looked to bounce back on Thursday, just two days removed from their tough loss to an undefeated Neshannock team (4-0), the Wolverines found themselves on the wrong foot against the Shenango Wildcats, once again losing in straight sets. The Wolverines struggled once again, scoring a match high 13 points in set three, but was just not enough to make a push late. Shenango improved their record to 4-0 on the season, as the Lancers and Wildcats both sit atop the section.

The Wolverines now fall to 4-2 (2-2) on the season, falling to the fourth spot in the section while the Wildcats and Lancers will be setting up a primetime matchup against each other with their undefeated records. The Wolverines this week will look to bounce back against Laurel at home Tuesday while traveling to Beaver Falls on Thursday.

ECS will have live video stream coverage for the home match against Laurel on Tuesday.
